The Hub work space, The Station boardroom and our event space are THE place to come together in true Kootenay style. 

The innovative design of NiC, with its union of heritage and technology, makes for a magnificent backdrop to bring people together. 

NiC is unique in every way. Historic details like the old lathe ceiling and the massive railway bridge girder blend with modern indirect and LED lighting, custom furniture, and natural touches that all pay homage to the wilderness that surrounds us. 

Whether you’re looking for a place to meet a client, get work done on your laptop, a venue for your party, networking event, AGM, meetup, workshop, seminar, meeting, mini concert or film screening, NiC is equipped with everything you need to make your event or meeting a success.

NiC is not a co-working space, it is a flexible work hub for tech and tech-enabled entrepreneurs and businesses. There are no desk rentals or permanent work stations. Instead, we offer a beautiful community space where you can professionally meet with a client, get work done on your laptop, take a video conferencing call in a private work booth and network with like-minded people.

Because we have limited capacity due to COVID-19, we created a booking system to ensure you get to enjoy all Nelson Innovation Centre has to offer. 


Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in B.C., and the uncertainty of how the Nelson area will be affected by students returning to school, we will be temporarily closing the Nelson Innovation Centre (NiC) for the month of September. 

KAST (Kootenay Association for Science & Technology) has a responsibility to keep our members, clients and staff safe during this uncertain time and are choosing to be proactive to ensure the safety of those in our tech and business community.

KAST and Nelson Innovation Centre will remain open in the virtual realm. All of our support services, programming and events will continue to operate online, as they always have. KAST has some major program announcements coming soon, as we continue to strive to provide the utmost support to our tech and non-tech businesses in the Kootenay region. 

For those wishing to book the Nelson Innovation Centre for a special meeting, workshop or initiative, or if you have any questions related to our temporary closure, please contact us at nic@kast.com. We will make decisions on a case-by-case basis for special bookings.

The central hub and anchor of the NiC space is our state-of-the-art boardroom, The Station. 

With its drop ceiling, beautiful curves and a large skylight in the centre, people have a window to the historic timber ceiling above while getting creative down below. Indirect lighting and general light exposure in the space make for a really user-friendly place for meetings.

The Station is the perfect place for meetings, brainstorming and planning sessions and is fully equipped with fibre-optic internet, a 75” Smart TV with Apple TV, Chromecast, Owl 360 Video conferencing as well as a custom boardroom table that comfortably seats 12.

Note: Due to COVID-19, The Station boardroom can currently accommodate up to 6 people.

Our event space is ready to impress. It was designed to be versatile and functional to accommodate whatever creative dreams you have for your next event or workshop. Made for small to medium-size groups (about 50 people), what we lack in size we make up for in the details.

Note: Due to COVID-19, our capacity is limited to 15 people.

Event Space Bookings Include:

  • Light and sound system including subwoofer and amp

  • Motorized projector

  • A 75” Samsung Smart TV with Apple TV, Chromecast and other smart technologies for presentations

  • Our small kitchen is complete with dishware, cutlery & glassware along with a dishwasher and fridge

  • Event chairs for workshops and seminars

  • 750-1000 square-feet of space (with or without use of boardroom) to accommodate groups of 50 people or less (Due to COVID-19, our capacity is limited to 15 people)..
