Community Futures Central Kootenay (CFCK) is a non-profit community economic development organization. They are committed to helping people in the Central Kootenay region who are either operating or are planning to start their own business.
CFCK aims to help new or existing businesses with training, loans, business counselling, and resources, provide income support for eligible individuals contemplating self-employment as a career option, and bring together key community partners and the region as a whole to work toward the common goal of sustainable community economic development.
The Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce (NDCC) is a member-driven, non-profit organization comprised of more than 500 small to medium sized businesses throughout Nelson and area.
Through their advocacy efforts, and their work with the Nelson and Area Economic Development Partnership, they promote business growth, sustainable development and job creation while facilitating strong, productive relationships with the community, educational facilities, businesses, nonprofits and government organizations.
The Nelson and Area Economic Development Partnership (NAEDP) is an innovative collaboration between the City of Nelson, RDCK Electoral Areas E and F, Community Futures Central Kootenay, and the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce.
The Partnership was formed so that local and community economic development opportunities in and around Nelson, British Columbia could be pursued jointly, efficiently, and effectively. This unique model for economic development is an alternative to the traditional EDO approach – and is proving worthwhile.
From employment readiness programs and supports to training opportunities, the Kootenay Career Development Society (KCDS) team helps both job seekers and employers meet their goals and is committed to diversity, inclusion and respect.
Their West K Tech program offers skills training for employment for West Kootenay job seekers in technology related positions. It’s for Individuals facing multiple barriers to employment seeking upskilling in technology related positions OR individuals with previous training and experience in technology related work.
Selkirk College
The Selkirk Technology Access Centre (STAC) offers a suite of services designed to build competitiveness in research and development companies in British Columbia’s interior region.
The STAC will enable the development of commercializable products and services and optimization of business processes resulting in decreased costs, increased efficiencies, and enhanced productivity for industry clients. It will also explore technical expertise and specialized equipment to advance product design and development of commercializable products/services.
Selkirk Technology Access Centre (STAC)
Located amidst the breathtaking beauty of southern British Columbia, Selkirk College is home to 60-plus nationally recognized programs serving about 2,700 full-time learners per year in certificate, diploma, bachelor degree, co-operative education and continuing education programs.
With eight campus locations in six different West Kootenay and Boundary communities (including Nelson), Selkirk College offers outcomes for in-demand employment, credit transfer to a multitude of universities for degree completion and enhanced training to further career opportunities. They offer comprehensive tech-related programs including Digital Arts, Web Development and a new Digital Fabrication & Design program that is set to launch in Fall of 2020.
The Basin Business Advisors Program (BBA) supports and inspires entrepreneurship and builds economic capacity in Basin communities by strengthening and supporting existing businesses and agriculture producers.
Their team of skilled Advisors is made up of Basin residents who have extensive experience in business ownership, management and/or business development. They are deeply committed to supporting Basin business and work collaboratively, when necessary, drawing upon each other’s strengths, to help business owners identify issues and opportunities.
